A third of the time of each exercise in Module 1 and 2 and Exercises
1-3 in Module 3 will be dedicated to articulation, as will all of
Exercise 5 in Module 3.
It is important that the children use the word "ART-iculation",
in this context the art of defining what we have done or experienced.
Children need to develop the art of verbally communicating what
they have physically/creatively achieved, as it reinforces the experience
by putting words on feelings. ART-iculation also facilitates the
child to take their exploration experience further by identifying
likes and dislikes or imagining what can be done with the sounds
they have discovered.
Articulation example: The children are sitting in a circle on the
floor, each with a pad and pencil. Show them how to create a mind
map. They catalogue all the sounds they have created and recorded
on their mind map as they listen to them. They then make decisions
on what sounds they want to work with for a composition and how
they imagine the sounds working together. For a group, use one shared
mind map.
